UNESCO Chair
The UNESCO Chair “Studying the Society and Its Steady Social Development” was set up in Astrakhan State University to execute the UNESCO’s University Twinnings Program, after our University and the United Nations had signed the corresponding Agreement. It was in 2004, December 9.
The Chair is headed by the University Rector, D.Sc. in Economics, Full Professor Alexander P. LUNYOV.
The main tasks of our chair are: forming a regional system of non-stop education; tackling the problems of our integration into the Bologna Process; creation of suitable conditions to provide employment and to increase the wealth level of the local population; reducing the social tension; preventing conflicts between people of different ethnic origins and different religions.
Interacting with social, public, cultural, and educational regional organizations, our Chair operates in the following top-priority directions:
Steady development of the Caspian region;
Increasing the role of Universities of the Caspian Region in tackling the problems of the regional steady development;
Development of the regional studying community – grounding on social partnership;
Development of intercultural communications in our Region;
Activation of an integrated system for research, teaching, and documentation in different fields of scientific knowledge;
Development and introduction of information and telecommunication technologies to optimize cultural, educational, social, and economical processes proceeding in our Region;
Establishment of systematic international cooperation and enhancement of international relations between universities and other organizations.
